International approvals for fuse-links – safety & compliance worldwide

Our fuse-links and electrical protection solutions are designed for global use. Numerous product ranges comply with international approvals – from VDE and SEMKO to UL Listed / cULus and CSA, through to RU / cRUus. This ensures that your projects in Europe, North America and Scandinavia are protected according to standards, your approval processes are shortened and risks in the field are reduced.

Why the right approvals are decisive for you

Compliance with standards & liability:

How do you ensure that protective components comply with the relevant standards (e.g. IEC / EN, UL, CSA) worldwide?

The solution:
The right approvals provide evidence of verified protection and reduce liability risks.

Your benefit:
Legal certainty and smooth audits.

International projects:

How can you avoid delays when exporting to the US / Canada or Scandinavia?

The solution:
The UL / cULus, CSA and SEMKO certifications applicable for SIBA fuse-links speed up approval processes.

Your benefit:
Shorter lead times and faster commissioning.

System integration & selectivity:

How do you select components that reliably provide protection for devices (e.g. semiconductors) and equipment?

The solution:
Approval-compliant fuse-links with clearly defined characteristics (e.g. in accordance with IEC 60269 / UL 248) support selective disconnection and low power dissipation.

Your benefit:
Higher availability, lower OPEX.

Evidence of compliance:

How can you reduce the complexity involved in technical dossiers and customer approvals?

The solution:
Certificates and marks of approval are available for many product ranges, and can be specifically found in our
Fuse Detector.

Your benefit:
Clear, transparent documentation – internally and externally.

UL Listed / cULus

(USA & Canada)
UL Listed confirms that a finished end product was tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in accordance with applicable North American safety standards, and is approved for installation and operation in the field. cULus denotes combined approval for the USA (‘us’) and Canada (‘c’) in a single mark of approval, thus meeting the safety requirements of both markets.

Your benefit: Seamless exports to the US and Canada, faster approvals from Authorities Having Jurisdiction and fewer project delays. A single mark of approval for two markets reduces the certification burden, number of variants and time-to-market for North American projects.

cRUus

(UL Recognized for Canada & USA)
cRUus extends RU to include dual approval for Canada (c) and USA (us). Components with cRUus meet the North American safety requirements for both markets and are typically found on fuse-links, switches and relays.

Your benefit: One mark of approval for two countries – fewer variants, and shorter supply chains and approval processes.

RU
(UL Recognized Component)

The RU mark (UL Recognized Component) applies to individual components used in larger devices or systems (e.g. fuses, relays or connectors). It indicates that the component has been safety-assessed and can be installed in UL-listed end devices

Your benefit: Speeds up device approval and reduces integration risks.

Note: RU is not a final product approval but a component certification. This is ideal for OEMs with UL-listed systems.

VDE

(Germany / Europe)
The VDE mark of approval certifies compliance with European safety standards (e.g. IEC/EN) and confirms that the product underwent rigorous and independent testing. It is a voluntary mark of approval that goes beyond the legally required CE marking and is recognized in the market as a distinctive indicator of quality and safety.

Your benefit: Certified electrical safety, consistent quality and reliable compliance with standards within the EU domestic market. Minimizes approval risks in projects and supports compliance with customers, regulatory bodies and audit authorities.

SEMKO

(Scandinavian market)
SEMKO is an established mark of approval for electrical products that is particularly widely recognized in Scandinavia.

Many product ranges bear SEMKO certification in addition to European certifications – a bonus for projects in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Your benefit: Simplified market access and fewer requirements in Scandinavian tenders.

CE

(European Union)
The CE marking confirms that a product complies with the applicable European directives and can be placed on the market in the European Economic Area. It is based on the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity and is a prerequisite for EU market access.

Your benefit:
Compliance with legal requirements within the EU domestic market and a reliable basis for projects, tenders and series applications. CE creates the basis, and can be specifically supplemented by additional marks of approval such as VDE.

EAC

(Eurasian Economic Area)
EAC (Eurasian Conformity) certifies that products comply with the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Area. The marking is a prerequisite for placing electrical products and components in the relevant markets and for their utilization in a legally compliant manner.

Your benefit:
Approved market access within the Eurasian Economic Area, clear evidence of compliance with standards and reduced approval and integration risks in international projects.

CSA

(Canada)
CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certifies electrical products in accordance with Canadian standards. In many projects, CSA is required in addition to UL to ensure full compliance with Canadian requirements.

Your benefit: Maximum acceptance with Canadian customers and authorities; reduces follow-up enquiries and shortens approval cycles.

RoHS compliant

(European Union)
RoHS compliant confirms that electrical products and components comply with the requirements of the EU RoHS Directive on the restriction of hazardous substances. This ensures that defined harmful substances in materials and components are present only within permissible limits.

Your benefit:
Compliance with legal requirements in the EU market, reduced environmental and compliance risks and a clear basis for customer approvals and technical documentation.

UR (UltraRapid®)

(Classification for semiconductor protection)
UR refers to the ULTRA rapid® fuse-link design developed by SIBA for the protection of sensitive power semiconductors. UR fuse-links are designed for extremely fast disconnection times and low let-through energy and, depending on the series, comply with the relevant international standards for semiconductor protection such as IEC 60269-4 and UL 248-13.

Your benefit:
Reliable protection for power semiconductors, reduced risk of failure and increased availability in demanding applications such as inverters, energy storage systems and industrial drives.

This page provides a general overview.

The specific approvals for a product are listed in our Fuse Detector.

You can find:

  • Data sheets
  • Marks of approval
  • References to standards
  • Technical parameters (e.g. I²t, utilization categories aR / gR / gS) in a structured and comparable format

We use consistent terminology, for example UR for ULTRA rapid.

The technical statements are plausible, free from contradictions and aligned with current standards (e.g. IEC 60269 and UL 248). This website deliberately does not provide product-specific details; precise certificate assignments are in the Fuse Detector.
