Sustainability at SIBA

Responsibility that makes a difference in everyday life

Intro

Combining technical protection and sustainable practices

As a manufacturer of fuse-links, SIBA is committed to ensuring reliable power supply and the protection of equipment. At the same time, we take responsibility for the environment, people and fair business practices.

Our aim is to create reliable solutions that inspire confidence, both today and tomorrow. We do not see sustainability as a one-off project but as an integral part of our daily operations in development, production, procurement, collaboration and all other areas of the company. In doing so, we consistently and iteratively improve, and remain committed to engaging with our staff, customers and partners.

Below, we provide an overview of our key priorities in the areas of environment, social issues and governance.

Environment

Protecting resources, reducing impact

As a manufacturing company, we use resources responsibly and are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact. Our approach is pragmatic, measurable and takes the entire product lifecycle into account.

Resources and energy

We use energy and materials in a targeted and responsible manner. Ongoing improvements in production, administration and other areas of the company, as well as a mindful approach to day-to-day operations, help to reduce the consumption of electricity, water and materials. We source 100% of the electricity we need from renewable energy sources.

Emissions and climate impact

We reduce emissions in areas where we have direct influence. These include process optimization, investment, tailored mobility and logistics concepts and the efficient organization of day-to-day work. At the same time, we are gradually expanding our database in order to present climate impacts more transparently and to prioritize measures in a targeted way.

Waste and the circular economy

For us, the circular economy is a way of life. As a founding member of the association “Umweltgerechtes Recycling von abgeschalteten NH/HH-Sicherungseinsätzen e. V.”, we support a nationwide take-back scheme. More than 200 tons of used fuse-links are collected and correctly recycled each year at over 700 free collection points. Valuable raw materials such as copper and silver are recovered in the process. The proceeds are channelled into research and further development of fuse technology.

We also take a targeted approach to other types of waste in our day-to-day operations. Our focus is on prevention, as well as on proper disposal and recycling. Looking ahead, we are working to further improve the separation of waste streams and to continuously refine the associated processes.

Product responsibility and materials management

In terms of product safety and compliance, we consistently adhere to EU requirements – in particular the standards relevant to us, the REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) and the RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment). We take these requirements into account throughout our development, procurement and production processes, thereby ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Social issues

Fair, safe, sustainable

At SIBA, people are at the heart of everything we do.

International standards, including those of the ILO (International Labor Organization) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, serve as our guide and minimum benchmark. We strictly prohibit child labor and forced labor, both within our own company and throughout our supply chain. At the same time, we constantly improve our working conditions.

Transparent working conditions, safe workplaces and clearly defined procedures form the basis of our collaboration. We are bound by a collective agreement. Our works council also helps ensure and further improve fair working conditions on a day-to-day basis. Open communication is an important part of this.

Respect, equal opportunities and a working environment in which different perspectives are expressly welcomed are, for us, a matter of course. Flexible working arrangements take account of different life circumstances. Our commitment to collective agreements promotes equality, not least through job-based pay grading, which supports the principle of equal pay for equal work.

In the event of incidents or reports of potential breaches, our whistleblower policy is a confidential reporting channel for both employees and external parties.

We actively foster training and professional development, both in-house and externally. We see learning as an integral part of our daily working lives. At the same time, we support people as they enter the workforce by taking on students and trainees, and we offer internal career paths and long-term development opportunities.

Health and safety are paramount for us – through prevention, clear rules and raising awareness. We regularly review and refine our procedures, working in collaboration with the company health center and our health and safety officer, among others.

For us, community doesn’t end at the workplace. Joint activities and events promote communication and team spirit, e.g. through staff parties and anniversary celebrations, or team initiatives such as the annual AOK company run, group blood donation drives and urban cycling.

Governance

Integrity, compliance, responsibility

We consistently comply with legal requirements and also place much emphasis on clear rules, transparency and clearly defined responsibilities. As a family-owned technology company, we are committed to the region and to our social responsibilities toward our staff, customers, suppliers and the environment. This approach builds trust.

Integrity, transparency and fairness underpin our activities. We firmly reject corruption, bribery and undue influence, and we practise a zero-tolerance policy.

Taking compliance a step further

We are constantly refining our compliance structures. Interdisciplinary teams work alongside senior management on key issues. This includes further development of the sustainability strategy as well as the responsible and data-protection-compliant use of artificial intelligence.
