High-performance fuse-links for demanding energy infrastructures
High-voltage fuse-links from SIBA are specifically designed for use in medium-voltage systems – from distribution transformers and motor circuits to capacitors and voltage transformers. They are used in air- and gas-insulated medium-voltage switchgear, overhead lines and oil-insulated systems, and provide maximum operational reliability even under extreme climatic conditions.
Our fuse-links provide reliable protection against short circuits and overloads, and play a crucial role in ensuring grid stability and system availability – a must-have for energy suppliers, industrial companies and plant manufacturers.
Your benefits at a glance
- Maximum electrical protection
- Industry diversity: Renewable energy, rail, industry, building services engineering
- Compliance with standards
- Decades of experience
As an experienced supplier of protection solutions for electrical installations, we offer high-voltage fuse-links that ensure the highest levels of safety and efficiency. Our products are tested in accordance with international standards (IEC) and have been proving their worth for many decades in a variety of industries.
High current limit – minimal mechanical stress
High-voltage fuse-links interrupt fault currents as early as the first half-cycle. This drastically reduces the peak short‑circuit withstand current, thereby minimizing the mechanical stress on cables and switchgear. For operators, this means less damage, a longer service life and lower repair costs.
Very high breaking capacity – protection even under extreme conditions
With typical values ranging from 40kA to 80kA, and in some cases exceeding 100kA, our fuse-links reliably interrupt even extreme short circuit currents. This protects your systems from downtime and achieves the highest protection standards in critical infrastructure.
Rapid fault interruption – protection of sensitive equipment
Disconnection times in the millisecond range prevent damage to transformers, motors and cables.
Current-limiting effect – enhanced protection for people and machinery
Reduction of the let-through energy (I²t) lowers the arc energy at the fault location. This improves personal safety and protects your equipment from consequential damage.
Robust construction – decades of operational experience
Our fuse-links are made of electrical porcelain or glass fiber-reinforced plastic and are protected against moisture, dust and corrosion via permanently elastic seals. This ensures a high level of operational reliability even in harsh environmental conditions.
Compact design – high-performance with a small footprint
High-voltage fuse-links have high breaking capacity while taking up comparatively little space and costing less than power switches. This saves on installation space and capital expenditure without compromising on protection.
Flexible customization – solutions for special requirements
Whether oil-immersed transformers, outdoor installations or enclosed switchgear – we supply variants for all applications. Special designs (HHx) comply with international standards and specific requirements.
Optional additional features – greater control and protection
By using strike pins for the mechanical tripping of load switches and temperature-limiting tripping devices, you can prevent thermal damage in the event of prolonged overloads. This ensures maximum operational reliability.
Low power dissipation – efficiency in continuous operation
Optimized fuse element designs and quartz sand fillings reduce heating during continuous operation. This translates into higher energy efficiency and lower
operating costs.
These features make our fuse-links the ideal solution for demanding high-voltage applications – even under cyclic loads and at high ambient temperatures.
Our high-voltage fuse-links comply with all relevant international standards, including:
- IEC 60282-1 / VDE 0670-4 – Current-limiting high-voltage fuse-links
- IEC 60644 / VDE 0670-401 – Requirements for motor circuits
- IEC 60549 – Protection of power capacitors
- DIN 43625 – High-voltage fuse-links; rated voltage 3.6 to 36kV
- IEC 62271-105 – Load switch/fuse combinations
SIBA fuse-links provide the basis for selective protection coordination – both between high-voltage fuses and in conjunction with low-voltage fuses and power switches. The coordinated time-current characteristic ensures that only the affected part of the system is tripped in the event of a fault while the rest of the network can continue to operate stably.
Our high-voltage fuse-links are not only suitable for general-purpose use but are also available in specialized versions:
- Motor protection fuses: Designed for high inrush currents and cyclic loads. The selection is based on diagrams that take into account inrush current, ramp-up time and frequency.
- Voltage transformer fuse-links: Rapidly disconnect the converter from the mains in the event of a fault.
- Capacitor protection: Protection against inrush currents on power-up. The rated current should be at least twice that of the capacitor bank.
For complex requirements, we offer customized versions on request – tailored to your specific technical needs.
